Association

Strategic management, as an independent sub-discipline of business administration, deals with the generation and defense of competitive and corporate advantages, the processes for planning and implementing these advantages, and the effects of these advantages (and disadvantages) on the success and further development of companies. Strategic management takes a comprehensive perspective that integrates various business functions. It draws on a broad spectrum of theoretical perspectives - from microeconomically influenced theories to behavioral approaches and institutional economics foundations. Important subfields of strategic management, which has itself already experienced advanced subspecialization, include corporate strategy, competitive strategy, cooperation strategy, and strategy processes.

The establishment of the Scientific Commission Strategic Management was decided by the general assembly of the German Academic Association for Business Research (VHB) on May 20, 2016.

Internationally, it is common practice to institutionalize Strategic Management within a dedicated platform. Strategic Management is also well-established in German-speaking countries, but until now, there has been no dedicated platform for it.

The goal of the commission's work is to provide German-speaking scholars in Strategic Management with a forum where scientific exchange on Strategic Management is concentrated. On this basis, a bridge to the international community in Strategic Management can and will also be built.
