Paderborn University / Collaborative Research Center TRR 266 “Accounting for Transparency”: Pre-Doctoral Researcher (m/w/d)

We are excited to be part of the new trans-regional Collaborative Research Center TRR 266 “Accounting for Transparency” funded by the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft – DFG). As a team of more than 80 senior and junior researchers, we will conduct a broad and ambitious research on the determinants and consequences of firm and regulatory transparency and the impact of transparency and its regulation on firms, economy and society. The initial funding period of TRR 266 is July 2019 through June 2023; it is renewable for two further four-year periods.

Three positions at Paderborn University have opened up. Contract period up to June 2023. The initial employment term for this full-time position is for four years, with the possibility of an extension. The position is limited to the duration of the qualification procedure of a doctoral project (according to WissZeitVG) in the field of Business Taxation and Accounting.

You will be working within the TRR 266’s subproject B06 led by Jun.-Prof. Regina Ortmann (Universität Paderborn) and Prof. Dirk Simons (Universität Mannheim) that investigates how transparency in transfer pricing influences corporate profit shifting and tax audits. The subproject B06 is based on model-theoretical research methods. As part of the TRR 266, you will working towards a doctoral degree under the supervision of Regina Ortmann and Dirk Simons. In case of a full-time position, you are handling and advancing the teaching portfolio with a reduced proportion of teaching responsibility in the field of “Taxation, Acocunting and Finance” at the Universität Paderborn.

Your profile:
You have successfully completed your Master’s degree in Business Administration or Economics, ideally with a major field of study in Business Taxation, Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Public Finance or Finance. You are very fluent in English. You are stongly interested in Business and Corporate Taxation, especially in the economic analysis of taxation. You are a great teamplayer and you are interested in contributing your sound expertise and methodological know-how in our projects.

You will be working within the TRR 266’s subproject B05 led by Prof. Sönke Sievers (Universität Paderborn) and Prof. Per Olsson (ESMT Berlin) that investigates how financial transparency can be measured based on (financial) disclosure, and how does it affect information asymmetry in equity markets. As part of the TRR 266, you will working towards a doctoral degree under the supervision of Sönke Sievers and Per Olsson. Further responsibilities are handling and advancing the group’s teaching portfolio with a reduced proportion (from the second year onwards) of teaching responsibility in the field of “Taxation, Acocunting and Finance”.


Your profile:
You have successfully completed your Master’s degree in Business Administration, Economics or Computer Science with a major field of study in Financial Accounting or Finance. You have an excellent command of English. Ideally, you have outstanding knowledge in handling (big) data sets with, e.g., SAS, STATA, MATLAB/GAUSS, R, PERL and/or PYTHON. In addition to your finance and financial accounting knowledge, you have (basic) econometric and mathematical skills and you are interested in contributing your sound expertise and methodological know-how in our projects.



Your profile for the two above postings: You have excellent analytical skills and are able to communicate effortlessly in English. You should bring along a strong interest in model-theoretical or empirical research in the field of accounting and business taxation. You are a great team player, have an independent way of thinking and show a high level of commitment.
