HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management is a university-level institution and ranks among the leading international Business Schools worldwide. As the oldest institute for higher education in business in the German-speaking world HHL’s goal is to educate effective, responsible and entrepreneurial business leaders. Aside from the international focus, the fruitful combination of theory and practice is of particular im- portance. HHL stands out for its excellent teaching, its clear research focus, its effective knowledge transfer into practice as well as its outstanding student services. The Center for Corporate Transactions and Private Equity (CCTPE) has established itself as one of the leading think tanks in private equity in Europe.
The Chair of Financial Management and Banking
held by Prof. Dr. Bernhard Schwetzler
is searching for a Research Associate (doctoral student)
(50-100%; limited to 3 years; prolongation is possible)
to join our team as of December 2020/January 2021.
Who we are:
The focus of our research and teaching is in the areas of corporate finance, corporate valuation, private equi- ty, and mergers & acquisitions. We work scientifically sound and application-oriented. Our work is published in leading scientific journals (e.g. Journal of Banking & Finance, Journal of Corporate Finance) as well as practice-oriented journals (e.g. Corporate Finance, VentureCapital Magazin). Our chair cooperates with nu- merous partners in practice in research and teaching. The CCTPE has close cooperations with renowned sponsors and partners (Boston Consulting Group, Ernst&Young, Nordic Capital etc.).
Your tasks and doctoral studies:
Your main tasks are supporting lectures and conducting projects with the chair’s partners. You supervise master theses and independently conduct exercise sessions that supplement our lectures. Thus, you do not just remain in the back office but gain actual own teaching experience. We offer 100% employment at our chair as a default, but also accommodate flexible part-time work if this is desired by the applicant. You work on your cumulative dissertation in close collaboration with the professor and the chair’s team. We support you in choosing an appropriate topic and collecting required data (e.g., the CCTPE owns one of Europe’s largest proprietary databases on private equity buyouts). Our doctoral students regularly attend international conferences, where they present and discuss the results of their research. For the CCTPE, you will coordinate joint research and practical projects with sponsors and partners. Furthermore, you take part in HHL’s doc- toral course program, which enables you to learn relevant research methods. Enrolment in the program is free for our Research Associates – you are not subject to the regular tuition fee of EUR 15,000. At the same time, you fully benefit from HHL’s high service level and the international alumni network of our business school.
You have completed or are about to complete your studies of business administration, economics, business mathematics or a related subject with excellent results (master’s degree or equivalent). You have corporate finance and Excel skills, are fluent in English, and are willing to familiarize yourself with statistical software (e.g., STATA). Relevant practical experience is a plus. Finally, you should have a passion for finance topics as well as a positive attitude, and take pleasure in working independently as well as in a team in a science- oriented work environment.
We offer you an attractive and challenging job in an enthusiastic team with a professional and inspiring work atmosphere as well as connections to important research and practice networks. If you have any further questions, please contact Mrs. Ulrike Gallwitz (Tel.: +49 341 9851 - 685). We are looking forward to your ap- plication, which we ask you to send via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
