The “Guttenberg case” has also shown that assessors and examiners have a substantial responsibility in exercising this duty. This raises the question of what a “good assessment” really looks like. An analogous question arises with respect to theses of students and with respect to examinations. What quality requirements can be imposed on assessments and evaluations? Under what circumstances may it be justifiable to leave such activities up to academic assistants (doctoral students)? How can one deal with co-authorships in the context of assessments? Can one evaluate work on which one has worked oneself and if so how? But even if one was not personally involved, how can one evaluate objectively and fairly, work which one has oneself supervised? And how should such supervision be conducted?
