The reviewing of articles that have been submitted for publication is also associated with conflicts of interest. Why should one recommend an article to be published when one is him/herself competing for free “slots”? Should one not also specify whether one knows the article in question already and/or the author/s? Should it make a difference whether the target journal is an A, B or C journal? These are questions that some journals do not answer in their own guidelines to reviewers.
