Once a year, the German Academic Association of Business Research (VHB) presents the Science-Oriented Entrepreneur of the Year award. The prize is geared towards entrepreneurs and practitioners who have shown great dedication in helping to support the communication between science and industry, especially in business studies. By honoring this science community, the aim is to create role models that have an impact beyond the VHB in both everyday university and corporate life. Such figures thus improve and support the innovative and competitive ability of the German-speaking sphere for the long term.
The VHB Executive Board appointed a selection committee, which submits nominations for the winners. After a rigorous research and evaluation process, the prize was awarded in 2007 for the first time to a leading entrepreneur who have distinguished himselve on account of a outstanding service at the interface between science and entrepreneurship.
On the VHB's 79th annual meeting in St. Gallen, the award for the Science-Oriented Entrepreneur of the Year 2017 has been awarded to Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Péter Horváth.
