Call for Editor-in-Chief of Business Research

Business Research is the flagship journal of the German Academic Association for Business Research (VHB). The journal’s broad scope is designed to cover both traditional fields of business administration and cross-functional, multidisciplinary research that reflects the complex character of business problems. Of particular interest are articles devoted to developing novel perspectives or exploring new domains of research. BuR is not tied to any particular subfield, type of analysis or national context; it covers all areas of business administration research. As of today, Business Research is a well-adopted and successful journal aspiring to become a leading scientific journal in the international field of business research.

Business Research is divided into five departments – Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing and Operations and Information Systems – managed by an excellent team of editors drawn from the academic community. The journal is published in an open access form, allowing for publication of not only text but also, e.g., spreadsheets or data sets. To continue the transformation of the proprietary publication process into one of high quality and high speed combined with comprehensive journal visibility, since January 2014 the journal has been published on the e-platform Editorial Manager by Springer-Verlag.

The current Editor-in Chief, Professor Sönke Albers (KLU Hamburg), who initiated Business Research within the VHB and successfully brought the journal to its current status, will be stepping down at the end of 2014. The VHB board is therefore seeking a new Editor-in-Chief from January 1, 2015 who will continue to position Business Research as an outstanding scientific journal in the international field of business.

The Editor-in-Chief’s responsibilities consist of defining the overall direction of the journal, soliciting high-quality manuscripts from potential authors and representing the journal to the general public. He or she identifies and appoints qualified members for his/her team of Department Editors. It is possible, but not imperative, to assume the positions of Editor-in-Chief and a Department Editor in parallel.

Candidates should have a broad and outstanding academic expertise in business research with a strong track record of publications in mainstream academic business and/or economics journals. They should also have access to a good network of international contacts from which to draw for commissioning and reviewing special issues and standalone articles. Experience of editorial work and familiarity with digital journal publishing are important factors. Candidates are expected to manage the journal with the support of an excellent editorial team within the VHB office.

The VHB seeks applicants for the position of Editor-in-Chief of its flagship journal Business Research, for a term of four years, starting January 1, 2015.

Candidates are invited to submit their applications by May 15, 2014.

Applications should be submitted electronically (info(at)vhbonline(dot)org), comprising a letter of application that describes their qualification and motivation for the role as Editor-in-Chief, as well as a complete academic CV portraying the applicant’s experience and academic record.

For further information please contact VHB vice-chairperson Prof. Dr. Barbara E. Weißenberger (barbara.weissenberger(at)wirtschaft.uni-giessen(dot)de).
