CALL for 2024 Applications open / Data Science for social good (DSSG) / Munich 2024

WHAT WE OFFER

  • A full time scholarship and accommodation for the duration of the fellowship

    • For DSSGxMunich 2023 the scholarship was 1400 € / month alongside up to 1500 € in compensation for travel costs

  • The unique opportunity to spend two full months working on a real-world data science project, gathering invaluable experience and making an impact for the social good. 

  • Hands-on project work, that greatly complements traditional academic teaching and helps upcoming talents to grow and develop skills

  • Both teams will be supported by industry-experienced Technical Mentors and Project Managers

  • Help from experts and consultants when working on the projects

  • An educational lecture series accompanying the program

  • Social events and group outings during the program to get to know your peers

    • Including a closing celebration at the end of the program

  • Two interesting and impactful projects to work on
     

WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU

  • Full time commitment for the duration of the program

  • You will join the program in-person in Munich

  • You bring strong skills / expertise to the project

    • This can be in machine learning, data science or coding, but also in the natural or social sciences

    • We aim for multidisciplinary teams and are looking for people from many different backgrounds, but it is expected that you have some experience in working with data / writing code, but by no means do you need to be a code wizard or computer scientist

  • Good team work in an interdisciplinary team

  • Good English language skills, as the program will be held in English

  • Strong motivation to work on a project for the social good

  • Aimed at recent graduates, PhD students, master students or bachelor students towards the end of their degree

  • You have a visa or citizenship that allows you to be in Germany for the duration of the program

    • Since we have limited capacities and little experience with the visa process, we are unable to help with obtaining a visa, but are happy to provide confirmation / invitation letters

Who can/should apply?

  • This program is aimed at students and recent graduates from a diverse scientific, as well as geographical background. We therefore encourage applications from the fields of data science, computers science, statistics, but also in general the social and natural sciences.

  • Even though the program will take place in Germany, you can also apply from abroad (although please note, that we will not be able to help with obtaining a visa). We aim to provide accommodation for people travelling to Munich.

What is the timeline of the application process? 

  • The submission deadline for applications is February 2nd, 2024.

  • Applicants will be notified in February and interviews held in late Feb/March.
